Sashiko: Stars in Diamonds

This Sashiko embroidered pattern consists of stars within diamnonds. I used deep red thread on a bright red fabric. Sashiko originated in Japan as a way for poorer people to repair, and at the same time, embellish their garments. Sashiko embraces the philosophy of “no waste” and thriftiness.

I created several dozens of red fabric patches embroidered with tints and tones of red thread to repair a vintage quilt. The quilt is solid red and quilted with red thread. This is one of several extra patches I did not need to use to repair the quilt.
