Sashiko Koi Fish 1

This small, red fabric patch’s koi fish is embroidered with dark pink thread using Sashiko. Sashiko originated in Japan as a way for poorer people to repair, and at the same time, embellish their garments. Sashiko embraces the philosophy of “no waste” and thriftiness.

I created several dozens of red fabric patches embroidered with tints and tones of red thread to repair a vintage quilt. The quilt is solid red and quilted with red thread. This is one of several extra patches I did not need to repair the quilt.
